It is proved that this art already appeared in the first centuries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
One suspects that it originated in India. Batik is quite different from the batik in Malaysia or the batik from Thailand. It is different in design, motif and the way in which one produces batik. In this technique, "paraffin wax" is used to cover components of the substance before this substance is dipped in a dye bath. So, that keep the part "was" covered with is the original colour. This method can be traced back 1,500 years and samples have been found in Egypt, Middle East, Turkey, India, China, Japan and West Africa. The traditional colors for Batik were derived from plants and trees.

Batik Processing

Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth, or cloth made using this technique. Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool, called a canting, or by printing the resist with a copper stamp, called a cap. In this way, the applied wax-resists dyes allow the artisan to colour selectively by soaking the cloth in one colour, removing the wax with boiling water, and repeating if multiple colours are desire. Batik making is a process with wax (candle wax), then dyeing, drying, and then cooking the material substances. Everything is done by hand.
